Mitzvah Mall

Sunday, December 6 – 1-4 p.m.

It was a huge hit last year – raising more than $16,000 in three hours – so it’s back. Help turn Beth Sholom into a “Mitzvah Mall” on Sunday, December 6 from 1-4 p.m. Think holiday bazaar with a twist: an alternative gift fair. The synagogue will be filled with booths, but the “vendors” will be nonprofit organizations and charities. Instead of buying more material gifts and stuff, shoppers can purchase/donate groceries for a hungry family, a juvenile diabetes testing kit, cell phones for battered women. Shoppers receive decorative “gift cards” to present to the person in whose honor the gift was purchased.

Barbara Brown is coordinating the event, so interested people are asked to contact her at 563-2712.

The following jobs need filling:

Publicity (press releases out, online calendars updated)

Logistics (creation of the booth map)

Briefing of agencies as they arrive (3 people)

Greeter shifts for the front door (2 at a time)

Snacks and beverages for sale (Youth Group)

Table set-up and take-down (may involve a truck)

Calligraphers (2)

What a mitzvah: resisting holiday consumerism and tikkun olam at the same time!
