On Sunday, February 15 2009, a crafters event like no other will take place at Congregation Beth Sholom. Here’s the skinny:
Crafters Smackdown is a hilarious, fun-filled crafting competition with an edge! This event is a team crafting competition using found objects, recycled materials and previously thrown away goods that can be used to make something stunning. This is our fourth year. We still have stuff to use up!
The Smackdown will be organized tournament style, beginning with basic crafting projects. The projects get progressively harder with more time allowed for each competition. Last year, we challenged teams to create the ultimate mosquito trap and make a poster for an Alaska Rock Band. The finals involved four teams who were given giant paper bags and asked to show their vision of Alaska in the future—in lunch-bag puppet form. For the second time, the Krafty Killaz took the most giant, rickety trophy and the title home. This year, we've decided they're too fancy to compete, so we booted them (their lead Krafta, Jackie, is returning as the "Craft Lady of Titanium" to demonstrate, not compete).
The feel is sort of Iron Chef meets Martha Stewart with a little pro wrestling thrown in. Everything is done in good fun, and we will be auctioning off the completed projects to the audience. Our event sponsors will provide prizes for winning teams.
Admission is free for spectators—and it’s a spectacle to behold!
