Byron I. Mallott, Tlingit, is the founding President of the First Alaskans Institute. Byron Mallott has been active for forty years in both the public and private sectors in Alaska, the Pacific Northwest and nationally. He has served as President of the Alaska Federation of Natives; President, CEO and Chairman of Sealaska Corporation; Trustee and Executive Director/CEO of the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation; Alaska Commissioner of Community and Regional Affairs; Mayor of Juneau, and his hometown, Yakutat. He has served on numerous corporate and nonprofit boards, including Alaska Communications Systems, Bank of America Alaska, U.S. Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, the Alaska Native Brotherhood, The Nature Conservancy of Alaska, The Foraker Group and the Alaska Public Radio Network. He is currently a corporate director of Alaska Air Group, the Native American Bank, Sealaska Corporation and Yak Tat Kwaan, Inc. He, in addition to the First Alaskans Institute, is a Trustee of the Institute of the North, the Polynesian Voyaging Society, the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian and Philanthropy Northwest. Byron is Clan Leader of the KwaashKiKwaan clan of the Raven People of Yakutat.
