From Rabbi Oblath

Dear Friends,

It is wonderful to share in the growth and strength of Congregation Beth Sholom. As we move into the year 5773, our traditional, estimated, date since creation (of either light...Genesis 1, day 1...or of the human being...six days later...your choice), we experience CBS growing with a strong sense of purpose.

Whether we look at our internal strength and growth, or at our increasing involvement within the Anchorage and Alaska community, the image appears the same to me. I see a congregation that is actively participating in, and even taking a leadership role in, the growth of understanding, compassion, and healing of the small corner of humanity in which we live.

We can be proud of our growth and involvement...it can make us aware of the enormity of the task...and guide us into an even more involved future. As the Mishnah reminds us, “It is not our responsibility to complete the task, but neither are we allowed to desist from it."  I am honored to be able to share that present and future with all of you.

Shanah Tovah,
Rabbi Michael Oblath
