Executive Director's Report
Only a few months after I first arrived in Alaska in 1995, I received a call from the synagogue asking for my help. Hebrew instructors were needed to teach kids in grade 2 and someone had mentioned to the Program Director that I knew Ivrit. I agreed to join the Religious School staff back then and feel privileged to be able to continue to serve this community now.
Since our inception in 1958, Congregation Beth Sholom has consistently provided spiritual, educational and programmatic opportunities for Jews in Anchorage and the greater Alaskan community. Our kehila is engaged and passionate in the pursuit of Tikkun Olam. We have served as a leader in creating interfaith connections throughout the state. We are proud of our history, and with good reason! Our current synagogue renovation and expansion is the ultimate example of the ambitious goals and commitment that our membership has toward ensuring vibrant Jewish life in Alaska. Most impressive, however, is our commitment to one another. We are a true mishpacha, embracing all who want to take part, providing a spiritual home for all who visit.
For those that already consider Congregation Beth Sholom their Jewish home, their Jewish family in Alaska, I thank you for your continued support and devotion. To those who have come across us searching for a connection to Jewish life here in the Great North, in the tradition of Abraham and Sarah, we welcome you!
B'Shalom,
Robin Dern
